Food Policies

While we are happy for the children to bring their own lunches and snack, our policies state that for our children and staff's safety we do not bring any nut products into the nursery - including nutella and peanut butter.

Choking on small circular fruits are one of the leading causes of choking in under 5's, so we ask that all fruit is brought in pre-cut to diminish the harm.

Bawdeswell Primary School

We are located behind Bawdeswell Primary School, but are our own entity. Children from our pre-school may attend the primary school when they move up into Key Stage 1 if they are within the catchment area of the school. We offer wrap around care for the students of the school.

Our Uniform

We offer our own uniform, which can be purchased from Birds of Dereham. This includes a range of items such as hats and book bags. We recommend the uniform as a practical option, as it helps protect your child’s regular clothing during messy play, outdoor activities, and other hands-on learning experiences.

Having dedicated items like hats and book bags also helps keep everything organised and ensures your child is fully prepared for their day with us.

Outdoor Exploration

The children thoroughly enjoy exploring the garden and immersing themselves in the natural world around us. We frequently take walks through our community, allowing them to connect with and appreciate their environment. No matter the weather, the children embrace the opportunity to go outside and explore, fostering a deep connection with nature in all its forms. They also engage in a wide range of nature-based activities throughout the year. One of the most exciting experiences Scribbles participates in each year, is observing our own caterpillars as they grow, transform into butterflies, and are eventually released into the wild. This hands-on activity provides a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about the cycle of life in a meaningful and memorable way.

Activities

At Scribbles, we take pride in nurturing children’s creativity and self-expression. Recently, the children explored their own interpretations of Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers. This activity allowed them to learn about van Gogh’s life and work, fostering an appreciation for art and its history. Learning about influential figures like van Gogh not only inspires creativity but also broadens children’s cultural awareness and helps them understand how art can express emotions and tell stories.

In addition to art, we actively support the development of children’s literacy skills. We encourage them to practice writing their names, a fundamental step in building confidence and preparing for future academic learning. This helps strengthen their fine motor skills, letter recognition, and early writing abilities. We also focus on phonics, which lays the foundation for reading by helping children understand the sounds that letters make.

Beyond literacy, we engage children in activities that deepen their understanding of the world and the people around them. For example, the children recently enjoyed learning about hospitals and the importance of staying healthy. They explored what doctors and nurses do and engaged in imaginative roleplay, pretending to take on these roles. This not only sparked meaningful conversations about their own experiences but also encouraged empathy, problem-solving, and social interaction.

We also love to provide opportunities for sensory exploration, as children thrive when they can get messy and experiment with different textures. Each day, they explore a new sensory material, which helps stimulate their curiosity, develop their fine motor skills, and enhance their understanding of the world through hands-on experiences. These activities support creativity, learning, and fun all at once!

The EYFS

The Early Years Statutory Framework is a government guideline for development in the first 5 years of life and we use this to track children's development.
